No matter, for many of its 10,000 residents do not seem to care if their small patch of northeastern New Jersey is ever discovered. The appellation, shared with six other municipalities throughout the state, causes a fair amount of confusion. Local legend has it that George Washington stayed there one night, giving this quiet Bergen County community its own bit of history - and its name.
